Sarah Palin recently showed off a noticeably smaller frame during an outing in California and despite growing concerns that she has become too thin, the former Governor of Alaska attributed her weight loss to an upcoming fitness book.

Palin, who became a national phenomenon as the Republican Party nominee for Vice President in the 2008 presidential election, recently stunned onlookers while shopping with her daughter Willow in California's Studio City. In response to criticsm and questions about her substantial weight loss, the mother of five explained that she and her family members are currently writing a fitness book to help others lose weight.

"Our family is writing a book on fitness and self-discipline focusing on where we get our energy and balance as we still eat our beloved homemade comfort foods!" Palin told People.com. Palin, 48, described the project as a "unique and motivating book" before assuring that "we promise you what we do works and allows a fulfilling quality of life and sustenance anyone can enjoy."

Palin's eldest daughter Bristol, who is currently a contestant on ABC's All-star "Dancing With The Stars," also recently made headlines after shedding a large amount of weight. The 21-year-old single mom opened up about her weight loss journey.

"I'm definitely in better shape than I was last time, definitely. I'm just more active and I cut all the crap out of my diet! It's that simple," Bristol told Us Weekly adding, "And my kid's a lot more rowdy, a lot more active. I'm running after him a lot! He's huge! He thinks he's a teenager already."

In 2008 Palin, who was then sporting a much fuller figure, spoke about her diet and explained what exactly her low-carb diet consists of.

"My family and I eat a healthy diet heavy in wild Alaskan seafood, moose, caribou and fresh fruit," Palin told the Wall Street Journal. "I guess my biggest pitfall is breakfast. I know it's the most important meal of the day but I still haven't bought into it. I hate to admit it, but a skinny white-chocolate mocha is my staple in the morning," she added.
