Samsung recently posted up pictures of a black variant of the Galaxy S3 smartphone on a Facebook page.

The page was created to showcase the smartphone's capabilities at the London 2012 Olympics.

These photos do not officially confirm that Samsung will release the device, but there is a good chance that a black model might pop up sooner or later in some carriers' inventories.

The device is currently available in Pebble Blue, White, and Garnet Red on AT&T. It launched earlier this year.

It would make sense to launch it in black since both the original Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 were released in that color. Many of the company's products come in black. Samsung has used this year's Olympics as a platform to promote the Galaxy S3 so it would be a good place to introduce a black variant.

In other S3 news, Google and Samsung are expected to begin rolling out the Android 4.1, JellyBean update for the smartphone in September, according to YouMobile.org.

The site claims to have obtained inside information from sources at Samsung who also said that the update will bring bug fixes, Google Now, and changes to the TouchWiz UI on the handset.

Samsung also recently released NFC (near-field-communications) TecTile tags for the device that allow users to fully take advantage of the smartphone's capabilities.

These NFC tags can be programmed to set off a predefined function or setting in a Samsung smartphone with the chip installed.

They resemble a sticker and are activated when a user taps them with their NFC-powered device.

The TecTiles are compatible with all of Samsung's NFC-powered devices including the Galaxy S3, Galaxy S2 SkyRocket, and smartphone-tablet hybrid, the Galaxy Note.
