"Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Nene Leakes revealed that she is now a grandmother following the birth of her oldest son's child.

The reality TV star can be seen happily posing for photographs alongside her granddaughter in the latest issue of In Touch magazine. She explained that her son Bryson initially hid his girlfriend's pregnancy from her until she accidentally discovered that he was about to become a father for the first time.

"I only found out about everything because I ran into Ashley when she was more than six months along," Leakes told In Touch.

"I said, 'You look pregnant.' And she said, 'Hasn't Bryson told you?' But he hadn't because he knew that I wouldn't approve of him having a child so young," she went on.

The 44-year-old mother of two gave birth to Bryson, 22, at the same age of 22 and due to her experience, she did not believe that he nor Ashley, 21, were ready to become parents.

"I didn't feel like he was ready for such a big responsibility. I was his age when I had him, so I know how tough it is. I didn't want him to make the same mistakes that I did. I needed to let it sink in," Leakes said.

After the birth of her grandchild Bri'asia, Leakes eventually came around and now dotes over the newborn. She also admitted to spoiling her in true Leakes fashion- by showering the baby with designer goods.

"I always wanted to have a girl and now I have one! She's just adorable!" Leakes went on, adding that gifts for her grandchild included "little dresses, sparkly headbands, and Gucci shoes … We just love her!"

Leakes was sure to help the young couple financially with the birth of their first child, and revealed that she was happy to pay for a number of items.

"I paid for everything in the nursery: the clothing, the diapers. I don't want her to feel strapped," she said, adding that she has since embraced her title as grandma. "Forty is the new 30. I'm a sassy, fashion-forward grandma!"
