Orlando Shaw has 22 children by 14 different women and now says that he cannot afford the $7,000 per month in child support. He is currently being sued by all 14 women in the hope of reclaiming some of the money owed to them.
"I wanted 50 kids," Shaw told NewsChannel 5. Now, though, his attitude has changed. "Don't want no more kids. I want to be fixed. I can't pay no child support right now."
Shaw, 33, will likely go to trial in order to pay the women to whom he owes money. He could face jail time for failure to pay. Shaw claims that he cannot pay his child support because his criminal past makes it hard for him to get a job.
"I was young and ambitious, and I love women. You can't knock no man for loving women. The ladies love me. They don't like me. I love my kids and care less what anybody think about it," Shaw said. "I'll be sure we'll be here for years and years to come."
His case is similar to that of Robert Sand, who was once known as the "world's most wanted deadbeat dad." Sand owed approximately $1.2 million in back child support to the two mothers of his three children. In order to avoid arrest and a trial, Sand fled to Thailand. He was finally captured when he tried to enter the Philippines without proper papers; officials sent him back to the United States.
Federal marshals met his plane and immediately took him into custody, where he will stand trial for failure to pay child support and avoiding arrest.
"I'm very glad he's back in the U.S.A.," Robert's mother Rita told the Daily News. "I told him to stick it out, that you can't get blood from a stone, but he said he didn't have that kind of money to pay. He made a terrible mistake leaving the country. He's not a bad guy," she added.
Shaw apparently has no plans to flee the state or country and will soon face trial.
