PETA Asks Gaga To Wear Lettuce Dress in India

Animal rights activist group PETA India has sent a letter to Lady Gaga’s publicist, requesting that the pop sensation wear a dress made entirely of lettuce at some point during her visit to New Delhi, India.

Gaga will be performing in an invitation-only concert after the premiere of India’s Formula One Grand Prix show Sunday, Oct. 30.

In a press conference Friday, she promised her fans she would put on a performance “unique for India.”

At the press conference, Gaga wore a tri-colored beehive donning the colors of the Indian flag.

PETA India has requested that Gaga wear a gown made entirely out of lettuce and pose for photos at some point during her stay in India, in order to promote vegetarianism. The gown would prove fitting, as the large Hindu population in India is vegetarian.

According to Reuters, PETA has also requested she wear the lettuce dress to “honor India’s reverence to animals.”

If she agrees, we'll make her a dress entirely of lettuce and held together by pins and threads. It will be a full length gown, and we'll make sure it looks sexy," Sachin Bangera of PETA India said in a statement.

“Someone will be on hand to spray the lettuce with water so that it doesn't wilt,” Bangera added.

Lady Gaga previously wore a ‘meat’ dress to the 2010 MTV Music Awards, which some found to be entertaining, others artistic, and still others offensive. The dress has been cured and now sits in Gaga’s personal archive of costumes and dresses.

Although known for her obscure and unique style, Gaga describes her fashion sense as that of the average girl.

“My personal style is like any girl really...I wake up and I put on whatever makes me feel good...quite often I end up wearing my old leather jacket with a pair of fishnets," she said at the press conference Friday.
