Katie Holmes and her daughter Suri have moved out of the New York City apartment they shared with Tom Cruise after Holmes announced last week that she was filing for divorce.

Actress Katie Holmes filed for divorce last week from Tom Cruise, taking the actor off guard according to some as he shoots for his latest film "Oblivion." Holmes reportedly sought a divorce after feeling overwhelmed by Cruise's belief in Scientology.

The actor, who will turn 50 on Tuesday, has received media attention in the past for his strong belief in Scientology. Cruise became a Scientologist in 1990 when he was introduced to it by his first wife, Mimi Rogers. The cult, however, proved to be too much for Holmes.

As Holmes moved out of the New York City apartment that she shared with Cruise on Sunday morning, she was reportedly stalked by five men who sat parked outside the 7th Ave. apartment. One report has identified the men as members of the church of Scientology.

"The mystery men sat inside a white Cadillac Escalade bearing Tennessee license plates with the engine idling and the AC running," the Daily News reported. "All casually dressed and 40 to 50 years old, they refused to identify themselves or even roll down their windows."

Holmes initial filing for divorce came after Holmes reportedly became afraid that Cruise would send their 6-year-old daughter to Sea Organization, according to TMZ. The organization takes in children as young as five to teach the highest levels of Scientology while their parents are away.

"Our sources say Katie and Tom had been arguing over Suri's indoctrination into Scientology- and we're told the Sea Org was the flashpoint," TMZ reported.

A representative of the church denied stalking Holmes outside of her apartment, however.

"There is no truth whatsoever to the TMZ.com report (or any other report) that the Church of Scientology has sent anyone to follow or surveil Katie Holmes," Gary Soter, a lawyer for the Church of Scientology International, told The Daily News via email.

Holmes has taken Suri and moved into a new Manhattan apartment located nearby to a gym where she works out and Suri takes classes.
