Selena Gomez and her family have received support from a worried Justin Bieber after Gomez’s mom reportedly suffered a miscarriage last week.
Earlier this week, 19-year-old Gomez canceled two holiday-themed performances scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The singer cited “family emergency” as the reason behind the cancellations, and E! News reported that Gomez’s mother Mandy Teefey had miscarried.
The Daily Mail reported that Bieber was in Los Angeles visiting Gomez and her mother in the hospital Tuesday. The 17-year-old singer has been dating Gomez for over a year, and appeared forlorn while driving toward the hospital.
Gomez learned of the family emergency while attending Power 106’s Cali Christmas 2011 concert in Los Angeles Friday.
News about Gomez’s family expecting a baby broke just one month ago after the singer took to Twitter writing: “Momma and Brian are finally letting me share the news…. My moms carrying my baby brother or sister I’m the happiest girl in the world!”
Gomez also added a black and white photo of her mother and stepfather in an “expectant” pose, with Brian’s hand gently placed on Mandy’s stomach.

Miscarriages occur most often within the first twenty weeks of pregnancy, and happen in about 10 to 25 percent of clinically recognizable pregnancies, according to the American Pregnancy Association (APA).
Speaking to The Christian Post, the president of APA Brad Imler said that suffering from a miscarriage could be devastating.
“It is a loss, similar to losing any child,” said Imler, acknowledging that the only difference being that the parents and family coping with a miscarriage simply will never have a chance to get to know the child.
“It is a devastating loss,” added the president. “One of the main challenges to women who lose their child prior to birth is how other people look at the situation; most people do not know how to respond.”
Imler explained, “For example, many people will say, ‘Well at least you didn’t have a chance to bond with the child.’” The expert clarified that people do not intend to appear insensitive will offering these condolences, but that perspectives on the loss of an unborn child can vary.
Similar to Gomez’s family, the Duggar family of TLC’s reality television series “19 Kids and Counting” also recently suffered the loss of an unborn child.
Michelle Duggar was expecting her 20th child, who the family named Jubilee, in April. The Duggars held a memorial service for the baby at their church in Arkansas last week.
Imler noted that not only are funerals often required by law, according to state in many miscarriage cases, but that the event can be very therapeutic and aid in the family’s healing.
“A funeral is a chance at a last goodbye,” said Imler.
