Just weeks after former NFL football star Junior Seau committed suicide, the home he used to live in was burglarized after the robber gained entry through a doggy door located in the garage.

Police explained that the robbery happened last week and that a bicycle that did not belong to Seau was stolen. The burglary happened at about 2 p.m. on May 7 at Seau's home, according to Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Mata.

The burglar went through several cabinets in the garage and stole a bicycle that belonged to a friend of the late NFL star.

The bike was described as a beach cruiser and was listed as gray in color with chrome fenders and a black seat, Mata said. What makes the bike unique is the amount of spokes in the wheel. There are 143 spokes in each wheel. Police said the estimated value of the bike was about $500.

The burglars gained entry into the garage, but they did not enter any other part if the residence. Mata explained that it looked as if nothing else was taken.

In the quiet community, news of the burglary spread quickly and support was given to the family after such as tragic loss.

"I just think it's horrible someone would even break into someone's house after a tragedy like that," Terra Ramirez told 10News.

"It's just pretty sick and disgusting, actually," she said.

Neighbors explained that they never had any previous problems with break-ins.

"I've lived here three years just up the beach and I don't really feel like I have to lock my doors or my back door and I never really had a problem," said neighbor Art Choate.

Oceanside city workers were had said that they were going to maintain the memorial in front of the house, but as of Tuesday night, there was nothing left.

Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the burglary.
