New photos displaying a shell of the upcoming iPad 3 clearly show that Apple's new tablet is thicker than its predecessor.

Tech site, MICGadget recently created an iPad 3 rumor roundup that showed these photos of a purported iPad 3 shell. It is shown specifically in comparison to the iPad 2's.

"Notable differences include a 1 mm to 1.5 mm thicker design, depending on where on the iPad 3 you are measuring," wrote tech site 9to5Mac. "In addition more tapering is shown. This will likely make the iPad 3 feel thinner than the iPad 2 when being held."

The report by MICGadget also claimed that the bezel on the iPad 3 is slightly narrower that the iPad 2's. However, this conclusion cannot be made based off this image alone.

MICGadget's sources also revealed to the site that the iPad 3 will feature a larger camera.

"This would mean the iPad 3 has an improved camera, but MIC is uncertain of the quality," wrote 9to5Mac.

Other information provided by the site included that the new iPad will come in 3 different memory capacities with 16GB, 32GB and 128GB versions launching as well as a 7-inch iPad launch coming later on this year.

"We would not put too much trust into the iPad mini claim, because these smaller-iPad rumors typically come and go with no success," wrote 9to5Mac.

If Apple did decide to go with a 7-inch model, it would probably be released to compete specifically with the successful lower end tablets such as the Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes and Noble Nook.

Apple is expected to announce the iPad 3's release in the coming weeks. The device is expected to launch sometime in the beginning of March. Apple is yet to confirm any information regarding the tablet.
