Hillary Clinton was run out of Malawi after a swarm of bees reportedly attacked the Secretary of State. This is not the first time Clinton has been met with resistance as she visited countries abroad, but it is the first time that insects were responsible for the hostility.

"There was a slight panic as the bees winged across the airport," one eyewitness told the Nyasa Times. "People could be seen running away to keep cover as the Secretary of State swiftly boarded her plane to avoid any stings."

Clinton was in Malawi to meet with President Joyce Banda and pledge support for the country's agricultural mission. She also met with students at the Lilongwe Girls' Secondary School; those students are part of a mission supported by the United States and founded by the U.S. Peace Corps.

She is the second-highest ranked official from the U.S to visit Malawi as part of an 11-day African tour in Senegal. Former Vice President Dan Quayle visited the country in 1991.

This is not the first time Clinton has been met with resistance during her time abroad. As Clinton's motorcade entered the city of Alexandria, protesters pummeled the vehicles with tomatoes and chanted, "Monica, Monica," which is a clear reference to the woman her husband had an affair with.

At the time, Clinton was alleged to be a traitor to the Egyptian people after she publicly supported former president Hosni Mubarak's wife. Clinton's statements came at a time when the political turmoil in the country were at an all-time high and resentment for the Mubarak regime was at its peak.

The Secretary of State has broken records for her travels abroad, as she has visited 100 countries. Madeleine Albright previously held the record of 98 countries, but Clinton eclipsed that last month. She still has five months left as Secretary of State, during which she is sure to make new records for future Secretaries of State.
