A pair of women aboard a flight caused the plane to make an emergency landing reportedly due to the fact that the women were drunk and disrupting flight procedures.

The two women were aboard British Airways flight BA2664, which was headed to Tunis from London's Gatwick Airport. Shorty after take-off, the plane had to make an emergency landing in Lyon, France, where French officials took the two women into custody.

Officials said the decision to land in Lyon came after "the continued disruptive behavior of two female passengers."

The women were said to be consuming large amounts of rum and shouting obscenities at children and were even reportedly caught smoking in the lavatory. The women also proceeded to threaten the family of one of the flight attendants before jumping out of their seats and running towards the cockpit, according to The Sun.

"They decided they were going to meet the captain and marched towards the cockpit. It was very frightening," one of the passengers is quoted as saying.

"Our customers and flying crew deserve a safe and enjoyable flight experience," an airline spokesperson said in a statement. "We do not tolerate any disruptive behavior onboard our flights … they were handed over to the custody of the French police and detained upon arrival in Lyon."

The spokesperson added that due to the horrendous behavior exhibited by both of the women, they have been banned from ever flying on a British Airways flight again.

French authorities placed both women under arrested when the plane landed in Lyon, who reportedly spent a period of time in custody before being put on a plane and sent back to the United Kingdom on New Year's Day.

Authorities in the U.K. and security personal from the airport are currently investigating into the incident to determine if further charges should be brought against the women.
