Relations between Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston's family following the announcement of her death have been strained. Some reports state that Cissy Houston hated Bobby Brown and may blame him for Houston's death.

Whitney Houston was in the midst of a successful career when she married Bobby Brown. Shortly after, the singer was reported to have been taking drugs, causing many to believe that it was Brown's fault that Houston formed a drug addiction.

Reports have stated that Brown is not truly welcome at Houston's funeral because many members of the family are not fond of him. It was confirmed by Brown's reps that Brown has in fact been invited to the funeral.

However, sources close to Brown have stated that his presence was not desired. "People connected to the Houston family have reached out to Bobby to warn him that he shouldn't attempt to attend the funeral because the family isn't fond of him," TMZ reported.

Brown has also reportedly been kept away from his daughter Bobbi Kristina since the death of Houston was announced. "Bobby Brown still hasn't seen his daughter -- THREE days after Whitney Houston's death -- and he thinks Whitney's family ... specifically, Cissy Houston, is throwing up the road block," TMZ stated. The site added "we're told Brown thinks Cissy has hated him for years."

Brown and Houston were married for 14 years. Two years after the marriage, Houston admitted in an Oprah interview that the marriage was "volatile."

In the same interview Houston recalled her mother coming to her house one day with sheriffs and a court order, in an attempt to rid Houston of her drug abuse problem. Brown was also at the house. "If you move Bobby, they're going to take you down. Don't you make one move," Houston recalled her mother saying. "And he just stood there like he was scared and she said lets go," the singer revealed to Oprah.

In 2008 The Improper reported that Brown attempted to sue Whitney Houston for spousal support while he was unable to afford child support for a different marriage. The site also quoted Houston. "As Whitney once said, every time she did drugs, Bobby was right there with her. And there's no question her life spiraled downward after she met him," The Improper stated.

Many users have agreed that Brown has no place at Houston's funeral. "He doesn't belong there. He bought Whitney a ticket to hell in her life on earth," proud2bBlack wrote on the TMZ blog. "I'm glad Whitney left him, I don't blame her family."

Cissy Houston has long been a supportive mother. "'She don't take no mess,' Whitney says of Cissy's brand of tough love.' She's very demanding, but she gave me the outline of what it takes to be the best,'" the site Classic Whitney recorded in 1998.

The site also revealed that Houston thought a lot of her mother's talent although she chose her family instead. "She could have branched out and done whatever she wanted to do, but she wanted to take care of her family," Whitney said according to the site.

Cissy Houston has released a statement about the death of her daughter. "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends," she said.
