Chad Johnson, 34, may have been formally charged with a misdemeanor battery charge for allegedly headbutting his estranged wife Evelyn Lozada last month, but the 12-year NFL veteran is pleading not guilty to the crime.

Johnson entered his plea in a Florida court Thursday morning. The incident took place one month after he engaged in a physical altercation with 36-year-old Lozada after she found a receipt for contraceptives that led her to believe he had stepped out of their one-month marriage.

While Johnson's life has drastically changed after the domestic dispute with the loss of a reality television show, endorsements, his marriage and his position on the Miami Dolphins, he has been vocal about taking the blame for the dispute that occurred on Aug 11.

"Chad (expletive) up not Eve," the NFL free agent told a fan on Twitter who accused Lozada of ruining his life.

When actress Stacey Dash took to Twitter to speak about it being a shame that Johnson had to learn a hard lesson publicly, he took responsibility for the dispute once again.

"I made that bed, I got to lay in it," he tweeted Dash.

Although Johnson's lawyer filed a not guilty plea on Thursday morning, he offered a public apology for his hand in the matter after the dispute last month.

"I would like to apologize to everyone for the recent events that have occurred. I would like to wish Evelyn well and will never say anything bad about her because I truly love her to death," Johnson said in the statement on his website. "I will continue to be positive and train hard for another opportunity in the NFL. To all the fans and supporters I have disappointed, you have my sincerest apologies."
