Thieves recently targeted an Apple Store in a California mall for robbery that still has police and locals wondering what provoked such a high profile and brazen robbery attempt.

Local police stated the robbery occurred on Sept. 6 shortly after midnight in a mall in Temecula, California.

The Temecula Police Department was notified about the events of the robbery when an alarm was sounded coming from the Apple Store located in the mall. Police in the area were dispatched to investigate, according to ABC.

Upon arrival, responding police units found the security gate in front of the store was completely destroyed and also noticed that the business had sustained significant damage from the robbery, but no suspects were at the scene.

In order to get an idea of how the robbery transpired the police reviewed the store's security cameras to see if any explanations could be gleaned from the captured footage.

The tapes revealed that a blue BMW X5 SUV needed several attempts before it was able to successfully crash through the security gate and break the large glass window in the front of the store.

Police then saw three suspects exit the car and proceed to take the items that were on the nearby display tables. The crooks focused their attention on mobile devices rather than more expensive merchandise such as MacBooks.

While two of the robbers were collecting the merchandise the one suspect driving the getaway car had trouble leaving the scene. The security gate that had been crashed through to enter the store was now blocking the robbers' exit.

The driver of the vehicle repeatedly smashed the SUV into the gate until he was able to finally break the security gate allowing the suspects to get away.

Unfortunately for the robbers the SUV had sustained extensive damage including two flat tires and was discovered abandoned close to where the robbery took place.

The police discovered a man walking close to where the robbery had occurred and upon questioning the man found that he had the set of car keys that belonged to the BMW SUV.

Police then arrested Equonne Howard, 22, who pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned in court on charges of attempted burglary and for violating conditions of his parole.
