Adam Lanza, the 20-year-old who shot 28 people, himself included, on Dec. 14, 2012, in Newtown, Conn. Of the victims, 20 were children between the ages of 6 and 7 years old. Lanza is seen in this undated photo.

Adam Lanza's hard drive, which was found destroyed in his Connecticut home, may be beyond repair police say, leaving them at a loss to explain the shooter's motive.

When police first discovered the tainted hard drive, they believed that it could serve as a key piece of evidence in discovering why a 20-year-old man would terrorize an elementary school filled with children. It appears, however, that the shooter did not want his motive unveiled.

"The computer's hard drive appeared to have been badly damaged with a hammer or screw driver," law enforcement authorities told ABC News on Monday. Two other sources reported to a local Connecticut paper that the hard drive had been in pieces.

Authorities found the drive over the weekend and have "spent days trying to extract data" according to Yahoo, with little luck. Lanza destroyed the hard drive before heading towards the school and now police believe that they may never discover the motive behind the shootings.

"He was eliminating [investigators'] ability to figure out what websites he had gone to or who he might have been communicating with," one investigator told Yahoo.

The little information that police do have confirms that Lanza was an avid player of violent video games. Some studies, however, have pointed that there is no correlation between violent games and violent outbreaks.

To unveil Lanza's motive, police are left with little else than the surviving victims from the school, which authorities have yet to question.

"It's a very, very tender, tender issue," Lt. Vance told The Wall Street Journal. Authorities added that special efforts would be made when questioning the children- their parents will stay beside them during interviews.

Yesterday was the first day of funeral processions for some of the victims. Families took time to share their grief, remembering how their children were and dreaming of all they could have been.
